Plans have been made. The old playground is down. And now the Hamburg Community Playground needs more volunteers to build the new playground later this month.
“Hundreds of volunteers are needed for the four dates, and only half of the spots have been filled to this point,” said Laura Herman, volunteer chairwoman for playground building. “Volunteers do not need to be from Hamburg, so this is a great project for community groups who are looking for a local project to help out with.”
The committee is looking for skilled volunteers April 28, and skilled and unskilled builder volunteers at the site between Highland and Prospect avenues April 29, May 5 and 6. There are two shifts each day, 8 a.m. to 1:30 pm. and 2 to 7 p.m., rain or shine. Builders must be at least 17 years old. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m., and snacks and beverages will be provided throughout the day.
Skilled builders are required to be confident in their ability to perform the following tasks, but not limited to measuring and cutting precisely to build a wooden seat wall, following directions to assemble large play structures, and pouring concrete for play equipment and seat wall posts.
Unskilled builders are required to be confident in their ability to perform the following tasks, but not limited to following directions to assemble small playground components, spreading gravel or wood chips, and laying landscape fabric.
Volunteers are asked to bring a garden rake, round nose shovel and 3/8” ratchet wrench with them.
Volunteers should register in advance by visiting hamburgcommunityplayground.com. For questions, email email@example.com or call 649-6170.
