What to watch for Tuesday
1. Boys lacrosse - Eden at Medina, 5 p.m.
Undefeated Class D schools Medina (4-0, 3-0) and Eden (4-0, 2-0) face off for the first of two times this regular season.
The Mustangs have league wins over Gowanda, Salamanca and Silver Creek, all by at least seven goals. Medina's led by the trio of senior Jake Cotter (21 goals, 2 assists) and juniors Brendan Luthart (17 goals, 8 assists) and Mason Lewis (9 goals, 9 assists).
The Raiders also beat Gowanda and Salamanca, both by 13 goals. Sean Burgstahler, Reid Minier and Drew Hesse are three of the top players for Eden, which beat Medina three times last season.
2. Softball - Williamsville South at West Seneca East, 4:30 p.m.
Williamsville South (1-0, 1-0) visits West Seneca East (0-0, 0-0) in an ECIC II contest.
The Trojans are the defending Class A champs and lost in the Far West Regionals to V-Pittsford Mendon, 2-0. They beat the Billies twice in the regular season last year and also eliminated them in the Class A-1 semifinals. Anilese Kelly, the ECIC II Player and Pitcher of the Year last season, is the top returning member for East.
South beat Sweet Home, 6-3, back on April 5 in their first game of the year. Shortstop Abby Ferenczy and outfielder Leah Czerwinski were both All-ECIC II first team selections last year.
3. Baseball - Olean at St. Francis, 4:45 p.m.
League contenders Olean (0-0) and St. Francis (2-5) meet in an intriguing nonleague matchup Tuesday.
The Red Raiders went 1-5 on their trip to Florida last week, but they won their first game of the year against Maryvale, 5-4 in eight innings, before they left. Cole O'Connor hit a walk-off three-run home run for the win.
The Huskies went 17-2 last season, one that ended in the Class B-1 quarterfinals to Springville, 3-2. They return five starters, including CCAA East I first teamers Garrett Boldt and Dell Butler.
4. Girls lacrosse - Williamsville East at Sweet Home, 7 p.m.
Sweet Home (2-3, 0-1) hosts Class C foe Williamsville East (1-2, 0-0) under the lights.
The Flames have their win over Lockport and losses to Clarence and East Aurora. Junior Sarah Penepento and freshman Lyla Militello lead the team with seven goals and two assists each. East beat Sweet Home twice last season, 14-10 and 12-4.
The Panthers lost at Amherst, 17-5, in their lone league game to date. Freshman Raven Williams leads the team with nine goals, while junior Renae Lauer has seven and freshman Ashley Whitehead has six.
