Authorities have identified the three adults who were hospitalized, along with a baby, after a head-on crash Saturday night in the Town of Hartland in Niagara County.
Two vehicles collided on Ridge Road, between Orangeport and Hartland roads, around 6:45 p.m. One car was carrying a 1-year-old child, and the child’s mother, 32-year-old Maren Smith, and grandmother, 64-year-old Ellen Matesic. Both adults were flown by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.
As of Sunday morning, the baby was in good condition at Women & Children’s Hospital. Smith was released from ECMC Saturday night, while Matesic remained in serious condition, the Sheriff's Office said.
The other driver, Matthew Lukasic, 30, of Lockport sustained minor injuries and was in good condition at ECMC, deputies said.
Lukasic was traveling westbound and is believed to have gone into the eastbound lane, and the Sheriff's Office said charges are pending against him. Fire crews had to use the jaws of life to get the two women out of their vehicle.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s Accident Investigation Unit is still investigating the collision.
