MOOSIC, Pa. – Buffalo opened their first road trip of the season with 2-1 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Friday night in PNC Park. The win moves the Herd to 6-2 overall and 4-0 against Scranton this season.
The Bisons took a 2-1 lead in the seventh when, with two outs and the bases loaded, Ty Kelly was hit by a pitch. The Bisons started that rally with two outs when Gregorio Petit singled, Jason Leblebijian walked and Christian Lopes reached on a error.
Scranton lead: The RailRiders took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI double by Ruben Tejada.
Tie game: The Herd tied the game in the sixth. Lopes singled, stole second then took third on a ground out by Rowdy Tellez. Lopes scored when Scranton pitcher Tyler Jones threw a breaking ball outside for a wild pitch.
First road game: Last year the Herd went 32-40 on the road. The last time the Bisons had a road winning record was 2013, posting a 39-33 mark. Buffalo went 4-7 at PNC Field last year.
Roster moves: Chris Coghlan was called up to the Blue Jays after Josh Donaldson was put on the 10-day disabled list with an injury to his right calf. Coghlan, a left-handed hitter, can play outfield, third base or second base for Toronto. Catcher Juan Graterol was designated for assignment to make room for Coghlan on the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster.
Shane Opitz was transferred from extended spring training to the Bisons’ roster and catcher Alex Monsalve was activated off the DL.
Up next: The teams meet again Saturday at PNC Field at 4:05 p.m. and concluded the series at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday. The Bisons are off on Monday and open a six-game home stand by hosting Norfolk at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday.
