BOOKS AND MORE – “Love Your Library” programs continue today and Thursday as the Buffalo and Erie County Public Libraries celebrate National Library Week..
Today they include free tax assistance from the AARP from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Kenmore Branch Library, 160 Delaware Road, Kenmore (873-2842). A sign-up sheet will be posted at the door at 8 a.m. and people will be called in their order on the list. At the Riverside Branch Library, 820 Tonawanda St. (875-0562), there will be a free School Recess at the Library program from 3 to 4 p.m., where youngsters will learn how to make book art.
From 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, School Recess at the Riverside Branch Library will teach kids about phases of the moon, demonstrating with cookies. Meanwhile, beginning at 1 p.m. in the Crane Branch Library, 633 Elmwood Ave. (883-6651), there will be a $1 bag sale. Visitors can purchase a bag at the front desk for $1 and fill it with books on sale.

PATH TO PEACE – Opera singer and lecturer Kari Mashos, a teacher of Christian Science healing, will give a presentation, “Counteracting Terrorism – The Global Reach of Prayer,” at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Frank E. Merriweather Jr. Branch Library, 1324 Jefferson Ave. at East Utica Street. The program, sponsored by the First Church of Christ Scientist, is free. For more info, call Lelia Smith at (857) 225-2015.

COLLEGE CASH – Applications are being accepted from women undergraduate students over the age of 25 for the Woman’s Club of Orchard Park’s 2017 Scholarship Program.
Applicants should be residents of Orchard Park or the surrounding Southtowns area, be enrolled in an accredited college, university or vocational training program and demonstrate financial need.
For an application, send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to Scholarship Committee, c/o Jean Shanahan, 8277 Cole Road, Colden, NY 14033. Deadline for applications is April 30.

GRANDEST ISLANDERS – Three businesses and six individuals will be honored when the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce presents its Citizen of the Year Awards at a dinner at 6 p.m. May 11 in the DoubleTree Niagara Falls, 401 Buffalo Ave., Niagara Falls.
Recipients and their awards are: Grand Island Soccer Club, Athletics; Dana’s Stylin’ Pets, Business; Sue Marston, Community Service; Cindy Wynne, Educator; Lynn Dingey and Becky Stufkosky, Leadership; Girl Scouts of Grand Island, Organization; and Jessica Flash and Allyson Nemeth, Outstanding Youth.

CHURCH NOTE – Seven pastors and several musicians will reflect on the Seven Last Words of Christ in a Good Friday service sponsored by the West Seneca Community of Churches from noon to 3 p.m. Friday in Covenant United Methodist Church, 539 Main St., West Seneca.
