ALBION -- David B. Callard, the Republican chairman of the Orleans County Legislature, announced Wednesday he plans to retire at the end of December, ending 28 years of public service.
Callard was Ridgeway councilor and town supervisor for four years before serving as the at-large member of the Legislature for western Orleans County for 20 years. He was elected chairman of the Legislature in 2010.
In a press release, Callard said he will leave office knowing "the county is well positioned for the future." Callard said he plans to focus on the heroin and opioid abuse epidemic that affects Orleans County for the rest of the year.
