Long ball pays for Griffs, Bonnies

Ryan Stekl (Lancaster) hit a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Canisius a 6-5 victory over visiting University at Buffalo Tuesday in the first game of their Big 4 doubleheader at the Demske Sports Complex.

Then the Golden Griffins scored eight times in the second inning and went on to a 13-5 victory in the second game. Christ Conley’s two-run double was the big hit in the inning. The Griffs are 18-13, while UB fell to 10-19.

In Lewiston, St. Bonaventure (14-12) got back-to-back home runs from David Vaccaro and T.J. Baker in a four-run first inning and went on to a 5-1 victory over Niagara (17-11). The Purple Eagles came back to win the second game, 2-1, as darkness was setting in when Trevor McCauley singled home the winner in the bottom of the eighth.
