A Buffalo man who was caught with hundreds of dollars in fake money was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison.
Damaricus Worthy, 21, of Butler St. was convicted on charges of attempted criminal possession of a forged instrument and unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.
State police pulled Worthy on the Kensington Expressway in December. During the traffic stop, Worthy put his vehicle in gear and raced away in an attempt to flee. Buffalo police assisted in a short, high-speed chase that ended when Worthy’s vehicle struck a tree. Worthy then fled the car, but was quickly caught.
A subsequent search of the wrecked vehicle turned up $4,500 in counterfeit currency, police said. Worthy admitted to police that he planned to purchase marijuana with the fake money when he had been stopped for speeding.
