Man found during demolition of Hirschbeck Street home died of smoke inhalation

The Buffalo man found dead last month in a home being demolished died of smoke inhalation in the fire that led to the demolition, according to his family.

Dana Gidney, 56, was living in the abandoned house on Hirschbeck Street when it caught fire March 17, Terrence Gidney, Dana's brother, told The Buffalo News.

Dana Gidney's body wasn't discovered until March 23 when demolition crews arrived to begin tearing down what was left of the structure, authorities have previously said.

The case remains under investigation, Buffalo police said.

In addition to his older brother, Gidney is survived by his parents and several step-children.
