Homeroom Announcements: Tuesday's big games & more

Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.

What to watch for Tuesday

1. Girls lacrosse - Lancaster at Hamburg, 5:30 p.m.

Five-time defending Class A champ Lancaster (0-0) visits five-time defending Class B champ Hamburg (1-2) in the top game on Tuesday's schedule.

It will be a whole new cast of characters for the Legends, who graduated two first team All-Western New Yorkers and two second teamers from last season. There's only six seniors on the 22-player roster, which also includes six sophomores and three freshmen.

The Bulldogs opened the season with a 17-3 win, but lost their last two to West Seneca East, 11-8, and V-Rush-Henrietta, 15-3. They lost a pair of All-WNY first teamers from last season but return All-ECIC I second team selections Bella Leitteri and Addy Wright.

2. Softball - Kenmore West at Amherst, 4:45 p.m.

Kenmore West went 14-5-1 last season and had the No. 2 seed in the Class AA playoffs before being upset by eventual sectional champ 7-Orchard Park in the quarterfinals. All-Niagara Frontier League picks Grace Ferguson, Jessica Leone and Abby Borkowski return to lead the Blue Devils this season.

Amherst returns all three ECIC III all-stars from last season's Section VI Class A-2 semifinalist: Hannah Bardeen, Abby DeCicco and Quinn DeCicco. Second teamers Mia Ciccarella and Lindsay Hoak are also back for the Tigers.

3. Boys lacrosse - St. Joe's at Nichols, 5 p.m.

Defending Monsignor Martin champ St. Joe's (1-0) visits Nichols (2-0) in the first Catholic matchup of the season. Joe's won both games last season, 7-0 and 9-8 in overtime.

The Maruaders handled Niagara Wheatfield, 15-6, in their season opener last Friday. Kellen Pulera scored four goals, Casey Kelly added three and Hunter Parucki had two goals and three assists.

The Vikings won their first two games of the season against McDowell (Pa.) and Williamsville South, 11-3 and 12-4, respectively. Jack Pfalzgraf and Cole Donhauser were both second team All-Catholic last season.

4. Baseball - Williamsville South at Bishop Timon-St. Jude, 4:30 p.m. at Cazenovia Park

The Billies graduated eight seniors from last year's 12-8 squad that went 10-2 in ECIC II, but do return a fair share of talent in All-WNY honorable mention pick John Genau and All-ECIC II selection Mitch Binda.

The Tigers went 6-13 last season in the tough Monsignor Martin Association. All-Catholic second teamer Trevor Brill is back, and Kiernan Higgins, Tyler Brill and Dillon Nelson will be counted on as key players this year.
