Buffalo man accused of sex trafficking at Amherst motel

A Buffalo man has been indicted on sex trafficking charges in a case that authorities said involved some underage victims.

Derek Harris, 22, was engaged in an extensive operation of sex trafficking out of the Boulevard Inn Motel on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst that involved several victims, including some as young as 14 years old, according to Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn.

It is alleged that Harris used the website to solicit patrons and negotiate prices for various acts.

Harris also was charged with criminal sex act and two counts of promoting prostitution at his arraignment before State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns.

Harris pleaded not guilty and bail was set at $150,000. If convicted of all the charges, he faces up to 50 years in prison.

The case was investigated by the Amherst Police Department and the Human Trafficking Task Force. Assistant District Attorney Ryan D. Haggerty of the Special Victim’s Bureau is prosecuting the case.
