Joe's Deli adding Amherst location, eyeing Southtowns

Joe's Deli is opening its third location on Maple Road in Amherst.

The sandwich shop will take over the former Risa's space at 714 Maple Road, in the Maple Forest Plaza, the company announced on its Facebook page. The opening should be in May.

"We feel like we have a pretty good following in the city, so we wanted to grow, and we have a great team assembled that we wanted to grow with us," said owner Joseph Lyons. "So we're opening in the Northtowns as our first step of hopefully a few more."

The Southtowns would be the logical next step, he said.

Joe's Deli opened in 2006 at 1322 Hertel Ave., the building that was formerly Mastman’s Deli. Buffalo Catering Company followed, then a second location at 534 Elmwood Ave., which opened in 2013 with a full bar.

The Amherst location will be like the Hertel location, with the main Joe's Deli menu, its own specials, serving wine and local craft beer on tap, he said.

Risa's, which ended service in the space on  March 31, remains open at its 285 Delaware Ave. location in downtown Buffalo.
