Homeroom Announcements: Monday's big games & more

Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.

What to watch for Monday

1. Baseball - Williamsville East at Williamsville North, 4 p.m.

Williamsville North hosts crosstown rival Williamsville East in the top baseball game of the day.

The Flames return seven starters and 15 players overall from last year's 22-7 state semifinalist team. Ben Geiger, Charlie Mack and Mike Steffan were ECIC II first teamers last year.

The Spartans return All-ECIC I members Josh Surowiec and Jake Zurat from last year's team, which lost to eventual Section VI Class AA champ Lancaster, 4-2, in the semifinals.

2. Softball - Fredonia at Maple Grove, 4:30 p.m.

Fredonia, last year's Section VI Class B-2 runner-up, returns CCAA West I Player of the Year Caitlyn Cybart and Pitcher of the Year Hannah Cybart. They'll look to continue the momentum from leading the Fredonia girls basketball team to the state semifinals.

Maple Grove went 12-8 last season and return All-CCAA West I member Mary Nickerson and honorable mention selections Lynne Nordin and Elise Swanson.

3. Boys lacrosse - Eden at Gowanda, 5 p.m.

Eden (2-0, 1-0) looks to stay unbeaten when they visit Gowanda (0-1, 0-1) in a Class D contest. The Raiders have dominating wins over Iroquois (14-6) and Salamanca (16-3). The Panthers lost to Class D foe Medina, 19-8, last Wednesday.

4. Girls lacrosse - Grand Island at Orchard Park, 7 p.m.

Grand Island (1-0) heads to Orchard Park (1-0) for a nonleague game under the lights. The Vikings own a 15-3 win over Lockport, while the Quakers edged out East Aurora, 16-13.
