Taza, a restaurant specializing in Peruvian rotisserie chicken and Lebanese dishes, opened March 30 in East Amherst.
The restaurant, at 9370 Transit Road, features a chicken rotisserie and a smoothie and juice bar. Lebanese offerings include hummus, falafel, kafta and grilled lamb.
Inaya Khalil and her husband Moussa operated a Lebanese restaurant in Virginia. That's where she got a taste for Peruvian chicken, common in carryout restaurants there. It's marinated in lime juice, garlic, cumin and other spices before getting a ride on the rotisserie.
The Khalils decided it went well with hummus, tabouli and other Lebanese dishes, and the idea for their restaurant was born, she said. "I'd be driving home with Lebanese food, and I'd drive by a Peruvian spot and say, I have to grab a chicken," she said. "It made such a perfect meal."
A chicken with four side dishes and pita bread is $24.
She has applied for a beer and wine license for their 40-seat restaurant. Hours: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. Phone: 276-8080.
