‘Mr. H’ was invaluable to Honor Flight Buffalo
Upon reading the latest article in the “Saluting our war heroes” series, we wish to say how proud we are to be a part of this Western New York community where our veterans are saluted and acknowledged for their unselfish sacrifice to our country. Sadly, Norman Hameister passed away the day before his story was chronicled in The News. We would like to acknowledge his work as a volunteer for Honor Flight Buffalo.
“Mr. H,” as he was known to the organization, always assisted in getting the flights off the ground, and on the return journey as well. He was proud to have attended a USO show hosted by Bob Hope, which was the inspiration for playing Hope’s song “Thanks For The Memories” while welcoming home our World War II veterans after a day of touring the memorial built in their honor.
As Will Rogers said: “We can’t all be heroes; some of us get to stand on the curb and clap as they go by.” When you see a veteran, thank them for their service to our country.
