A Lockport man is accused of inflicting a brain injury on his live-in girlfriend's 2-year-old son.
John M. Moudy, 28, of Clinton Street, was picked up Tuesday on a warrant charging him with two counts of second-degree assault and one count of child endangerment.
Moudy is accused of injuring the boy Oct. 27 with "blunt force trauma," Niagara County First Assistant District Attorney Holly E. Sloma said. She declined to specify anything else about the attack, except to say that no weapon was involved. The child was in Women and Children's Hospital for a month and was required to wear a helmet at home for some time after his release, Sloma said.
The child is now in the custody of a relative after a Family Court proceeding. State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. rejected a prosecution request for $50,000 bail and released Moudy, who has three previous felony convictions, on his own recognizance to await his next court date June 2.
