Developer seeks final approval for upscale East Amherst apartments

A transplant surgeon-turned-developer is seeking the final approvals he needs to move forward with an 18-unit, upscale apartment complex in East Amherst.

Dr. Fadi Dagher plans to put up a two-story, multifamily building at 9150 Transit Road, just north of the Transit Valley Country Club and next to Grover's Bar & Grill. All but two would be two-bedroom units, ranging from 900 square feet to 1,400 square feet.

The Amherst Town Board already agreed to rezone 1.37 acres of the 1.96-acre site, from general business to multifamily residential, and approved several variances to make way for the $4 million project. Dagher's Cedarland Development Group also is building an eight-unit parking garage, parking lot, landscaping and a driveway connection to Transit Road.

Dagher is awaiting site plan approval, which could come as early as the April meeting of the Amherst Planning Board. Work on the Creek View Luxury Apartments would begin as soon as building permits are issued.
Sean W. Hopkins, an attorney representing Dagher, said the developer worked on the site plan for about a year. "The project layout as proposed is the result of extensive discussions with nearby property owners," Hopkins said.
