A Cheektowaga woman Monday admitted that she helped others to file false New York State personal income tax returns.
Shonnel Harris, 48, pleaded guilty in Erie County Court to criminal tax fraud in the fourth degree, according to District Attorney John J. Flynn Jr.
In pleading guilty, Harris acknowledged she acted as an unlicensed tax preparer while assisting others in the preparation of false personal income tax returns that resulted in a loss of about $19,000 to New York State.
Harris faces 1 1/3 to four years in jail when she is sentenced on June 12.
The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance assisted in the investigation of the case. The District Attorney's Special Investigations and Prosecutions Bureau prosecuted the case.
