LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls man who fought his roommate over missing food faces up to seven years in prison after pleading guilty Monday in Niagara County Court.
The victim, Dennis McGuire, 52, was left with "significant brain trauma," Niagara County Assistant District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann told Judge Matthew J. Murphy III.
Murphy scheduled sentencing May 16 for Scott Lewis, 29, who admitted to second-degree assault. Hoffmann said she thought the Nov. 7 beating, in which no weapons were used, was triggered by McGuire's desire to let a third person live in the Crick Court apartment. But Lewis said that's not how it happened.
"He was stealing food from my refrigerator. He lied to me," Lewis told the judge. "I was a little under the influence of alcohol."
Lewis said he is taking medications for mental health issues.
