Brad Self’s stay as a member of the Buffalo Bandits ended in less than a season.
Self was dealt to the Colorado Mammoth on Monday in exchange for Creighton Reid and a fourth-round draft pick in 2019. Reid then was sent to Calgary for a fourth-round pick in 2017 and a second-rounder in 2019.
Self, 36, was acquired from Rochester just before the 2017 National Lacrosse League draft for a second-round pick. He had been the NLL’s transition player of the year in 2016.
This season, Self had 13 goals and 23 assists for 36 points. The figures for goals and points are career highs. He started the season on defense, but frequently moved up to offense in recent weeks because of an injury to Ryan Benesch. With several players returning to health in the past couple of weeks, the Bandits were crowded at forward. Even so, the trade was a surprise.
Reid is an eight-year veteran, spending six years in Colorado after beginning his career in Toronto. The defender has 12 points this season.
The Bandits play the Saskatchewan Rush on Saturday night in the KeyBank Center.
