Buffalo police on Saturday arrested two Buffalo men suspected of scamming a woman by selling her a fake laptop on Feb. 25.
Marvin Royster of Collins Walk and Clyde Brown of Barthel Street, both in their 40s, are charged each with second-degree scheme to defraud and petit larceny. The two were arrested in a store in the 2100 block of Elmwood Avenue, where the swindle began, police said.
The victim, who was offered a Mac laptop for $350, initially turned them down but the suspects followed her out of the store, police said. When the woman demanded to see the laptop, the suspects partially opened the box, and the victim gave the two suspects a $100 down payment, promising to send them the balance. Later, when the victim fully opened the box, she realized she had been conned and alerted police.
Royster and Brown remained in custody in the Erie County Holding Center Sunday night.
