CRAFTS, Eileen Scanlon

CRAFTS - Eileen Scanlon Of Cary, NC (formerly of New Smyrna
Beach, FL and Smithtown, NY), passed away peacefully with her family at her side on March 13, 2017, beloved wife of the late Clifford; loving mother of Kathy (Tim) Belair, late John (Judy) Crafts, Peter (Lauren) Crafts, Kevin (Glenn) Crafts, Mark (Madelyn) Crafts, Tim (Denise) Crafts; cherished grandmother of 10, and great-grandmother of five; beloved sister of the late John (late Janet), Mary Louise, Patricia (Robert), late Robert (Joanne). Born in Buffalo, NY, Eileen graduated from Holy Angels Academy ('45) before entering the University of Michigan. While at Michigan, she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and president of it in her senior year. Graduating with a Phi Beta Kappa key in '49, Eileen went on to earn an MBA at the University of Michigan School of Business. One of the few women to earn this degree at that time, she was an inspiration to all her children and grandchildren - particularly her daughter and five granddaughters. She married Cliff Crafts and moved to Smithtown in the late 1950's. Both Cliff and Eileen were involved in the community and owned a local insurance agency on Landing Avenue. For many years, Eileen was an active member in The Society of the Lending Comforts to the Sick. In 1984, Eileen and Cliff moved to New Smyrna Beach, FL, where she was very active in the ladies golf association at the Sugar Mill Country Club Community. She lived there for almost thirty years until relocating to Cary, NC to be near her son, Peter, and his family. Funeral Mass was held Friday, March 17 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Apex, NC. Private cremation followed. Interment of her ashes will be later this Spring in Greenwood Cemetery located in Nazareth, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Society for Lending Comforts to the Sick, 71 Blydenburgh Avenue, Smithtown, NY 11787. Arrangements were handled by the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd., Cary, NC.
