Zoos help protect wildlife from man
On the March 15 News opinion page, two articles drew my attention. A letter in Everybody’s Column related that zoos are detrimental to the well-being of animals (they belong in the wild), while an op-ed by Kathleen Parker noted the House voted to overturn a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service rule forbidding the baiting, trapping and “denning” of bears and wolves in Alaska’s national wildlife refuges.
If you read her whole article, it soon becomes apparent how repugnant and inhumane this is. Because of mindsets such as this, it is obvious why we have zoos.
