Polaris has recalled Sportsman 850 and 1000 All-Terrain Vehicles due to burn and fire hazards, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The problem has to do with the right-side panel heat shield, which can melt. Also, the exhaust system in the 2015 Sportsman 1000 is prone to problems that can cause exhaust leaks and pose burn and fire hazards. There have been 793 reports of warped, melted or burned side panels, 47 reports of fires and four reports of minor burn injuries.
About 19,200 vehicles are affected, all with the model year 2015 and 2016. They were sold from May 2014 to March 2017 at Polaris dealers across the country for $8,500 to $15,000.
