Did article on Mafia have to run on St. Joseph’s Day?
The article, “The Mafia is all but dead in Western New York. So what killed it?” appearing in The News on March 19 was upsetting, to say the least. I am sure it was purely coincidental that the article was published on the front page of The News on St. Joseph’s Day – a beloved, meaningful feast lovingly celebrated by thousands of proud Italian-Americans throughout Western New York and beyond. Yet no mention of this religious and cultural fixture was to be found. No, only negativity, and incidentally no mention of Jewish, Polish and many other mafiosi of different nationalities. Shame on The News.
