More costly Curtiss Hotel project gets additional tax breaks

The $24 million Curtiss Hotel is getting an addition $466,000 in tax breaks through the Erie County Industrial Development Agency to reflect the rising cost of converting the Franklin Street site into a 67-room upscale boutique hotel.

The cost of the hotel project has jumped by more than $6 million since the IDA initially approved $575,000 in sales tax breaks for the hotel. The new incentive reflects the project's increased cost.

Developer Mark Croce also has pledged to create 25 more jobs than he originally committed to create. Croce now plans to create 55 jobs at the hotel, up from 30 in his initial proposal.

The hotel is expected to open next month.
