Bliss returns to Thin Man
Bliss, a double India Pale Ale, is returning to Thin Man Brewery (492 Elmwood Ave.) where the gold medal-winning hoppy treat will be back on tap starting March 24. The brewery also is pouring a special edition of its IPA, Burning Money, taking the standard recipe and swapping in lupulin powder, which lends an intense aroma, for the normal hops. Call 923-4100.
CBW at Goodbar
Mister Goodbar (1110 Elmwood Ave.) is hosting Community Beer Works for its third Thursday beer event from 10 p.m. to midnight March 23. Four beers from the brewery will be on tap as well as a special cask. Beer specials will include $1 off of CBW pints, and $7 flights of beers. Call 882-4000.
New from 42 North
42 North Brewing Company (25 Pine St., East Aurora) has two new releases, both out now.
Nomad (6 percent alcohol by volume) is a white wine barrel-aged Belgian blonde ale with Brettanomyces. It is the first in the brewery’s Surveyor Series of barrel-aged beers, described as having white grape and apple flavors and some barnyard funk.
Also being released is an experimental pilot batch simply dubbed Pilot: Sour Farmhouse 1. It is a sour beer long-fermented with Lactobacillus culture and Belgian saison yeast, brewed with spices and bitter orange peel, but no hops in the boil. The pilot batch was then dry-hopped with Galaxy hops to provide a complex fruit aroma (5.6 percent ABV). Call 805-7500.
A double release from Woodcock
Woodcock Brothers Brewery (638 Lake St., Wilson) will host its biggest XPA (experimental pale ale) release yet with two versions at noon on March 24. This double can release will include versions 10.0 and 11.0, limited to three four-packs per person of each version, one case total. Both also will be on cask at the brewery that day.
Limited amounts of the beers will be available in area stores, which will be announced on the brewery’s social media accounts. Call 333-4000.
Imperial stout at Five & 20
Five & 20 Spirits & Brewing (8398 US-20, Westfield) has an imperial stout on tap right now at its tasting room. This limited release beer is 10.5 percent ABV brewed with New York grown malt and hops, with notes of coffee, smoke and dark fruits like black currants. The beer is full-bodied and smooth, with no alcohol burn. Call 793-9463.
Big Ditch throws a party
Big Ditch Brewing Company (55 E. Huron St.) is throwing a Spring equinox party on March 25. To commemorate, the brewery is releasing a bunch of new and older beers, including 2017 and 2016 Towpath Imperial stout and bourbon barrel-aged Towpath.
The new beers are part of the brewery’s Innovation Series starting with End of Winter weisse (four variants of 4.3 percent ABV pilot berlinerweisse with mango, passion fruit, watermelon and blueberry). Next is Trappist-1 Tripel, a Belgian style tripel brewed to celebrate the recent discovery of the new planetary system (8.6 percent ABV).
The final new release is Gratzer-2, a 4 percent ABV Polish gratzer featuring a hint of smoke in preparation for Dyngus Day. Call 854-5050.
