Mom accused of hitting pole while driving drunk with child in car

An Albion mother was charged with drunken driving after her northbound vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole at 301 Hamilton St. at 9:15 p.m. Saturday in the village, Albion police said.

Courtney L. Robertson, 39, also had her 6-year-old child in the car and charges were increased to felony aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra's Law. Police said not only had Robertson been drinking, she had been consuming alcohol while she was driving.

The child was not injured, but was taken to Medina Memorial Hospital by the Central Orleans Volunteer Ambulance as a precaution. The Albion Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Robertson was not injured and was taken into custody at the scene. In addition to DWI charges, she was charged with consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without a seat belt and moving from a lane unsafely.

She is to appear in the Town of Albion Court on April 11.
