Niagara Falls felon gets chance to avoid 7 years in prison

LOCKPORT - A Niagara Falls man who failed a court-supervised drug treatment program will now try rehabilitation in a boot-camp style drug treatment center.

State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. on Thursday sent DeJuan R. Savage, 27, of North Avenue, to a 90-day program at Willard Correctional Facility in Seneca County.

If DeJuan R. Savage washes out of that program, he'll serve 3 1/2 to seven years in prison. If he complies with the program, he'll be on parole for seven years.

Savage pleaded guilty in 2015 to two felonies: third-degree burglary for entering a Niagara Falls apartment in a May 2015 domestic violence incident, and third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance for selling cocaine, also in 2015.

Kloch could have imposed consecutive sentences totaling 16 years in prison.
