Williamsville man gets jail term for stealing credit cards from relatives

Kevin T. Clauss, 23, of Williamsville, was sentenced to nine months in jail Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge stemming from the theft of credit cards from relatives to finance his heroin addiction.

Amherst Town Justice Geoffrey K. Klein sentenced Clauss after he pleaded guilty to petit larceny.

Defense attorney James DeMatteo said his client failed twice over the past year in efforts to complete Amherst Drug Court sessions designed to spare him a criminal conviction following his arrest last May on grand larceny charges. But Clauss seems to be making progress in overcoming his heroin addition and agreed to a petit larceny plea offered by prosecutors, DeMatteo said.
