RUNNING FREE – Lancaster Unleashed, a nonprofit group working to establish an off-leash dog park in the Town of Lancaster, invites dog lovers to join them at their meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Lancaster Public Library, 5466 Broadway, Lancaster. The Veterans Memorial Euchre Tournament is in its 19th year.

DEAL US IN – Enchanted Mountains Lodge 252, Free & Accepted Masons, will hold its 19th annual Veterans Memorial Euchre Tournament at noon Saturday in Allegany Post 892, American Legion, 4350 State Road (Route 417 West), Allegany. Registration begins at 11 a.m.

TAX DAY APPROACHES – With that deadline date with the taxman – this year, April 18 – only a month away, Niagara County residents can get free help filing their state and federal income taxes in a program sponsored by the Consumer Credit Counseling Service and the Niagara County Financial Literacy Coalition.
Free tax help is available from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through April 11 in Christ Community Church, 140 Genesee St., Lockport.
On Wednesdays, free help will be given from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. through April 12 in the Family and Children’s Service Center, 1522 Main St., Niagara Falls.
Appointments can be scheduled by calling 712-2060. To qualify for free help, household income must be below $54,000. Last year the program helped 267 Niagara County residents send in their tax forms and saved them an estimated $83,838 in filing fees.

Get to know and count real-life frogs at Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve.

BEING GREEN – Frog lovers and nature enthusiasts can volunteer to become citizen scientists through a program sponsored by the State Department of Environmental Conservation and Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve in Depew.
Reinstein Woods will offer free training at 7 p.m. next Tuesday on how to identify frogs and toads by their mating calls and gather information for a national database as part of FrogWatch USA. Volunteers must be able to monitor amphibians in the nature preserve at least one evening a week throughout the spring.

HELP THE HUNGRY – Feed My Starving Children, a program based at Villa Maria College, is gearing up for its sixth annual MobilePack preparation effort March 25 and 26. During four two-hour shifts, volunteers will assemble more than 100,000 nutritional meal bags that will be sent to Haiti, Honduras, the Philippines and elsewhere.
“A single ‘Manna’ meal costs 22 cents,” says Kim Kotz, organizer of the Feed My Starving Children program at Villa Maria and an assistant professor of physical therapy. “A $50 donation covers 227 meals, which can be put together by one person in two hours.”

TUNE UP – The Sanborn Fire Company Band will hold an open rehearsal from 7:30 to 9 p.m. March 20 in the Sanborn Fire Hall, 5811 Buffalo St. (Route 429), Sanborn. All musicians 14 years old and up are invited. Refreshments will follow.
