It’s great to see volunteers mentor and guide students

The March 1 News article, “101 men step up to help youth,” highlighted the incredible efforts of the Rev. Gene Coplin Jr. and was truly inspiring. He has assembled more than 200 committed black adults, men and women, to support, mentor, guide and inspire Buffalo’s students to not only graduate from high school but to form values and self-discipline to help them pursue the American dream.

Coplin and his “newly deputized volunteers” are a breath of fresh air. On behalf of the entire Western New York community, they deserve our gratitude for taking time out of their busy lives to work with this very important part of our community’s future.

George Collins Jr.
