Indie favorites The Shins booked for Niagara Falls in July

Beloved indie pop act The Shins will make a much-anticipated performance at 8 p.m. July 11 in the Rapids Theatre (1711 Main St., Niagara Falls).

After a five-year hiatus, the group, led by front man James Mercer, will release its fifth studio album, "Heartworms," on March 10. It will be the band's first release since 2012's comeback album "Port of Morrow."

Best known for breakthrough single "New Slang," the Pacific Northwest-rooted band stole the hearts of countless indie kids through the band's scene-stealing role in the Zach Braff film "Garden State."

Tickets are set to go on sale for $37-$42 at 10 a.m. March 17, via the Rapids Theatre box office, or charge by phone at 877-435-9849.
