Woman lies about being in labor during traffic stop, gets arrested

WARSAW - A man and woman pulled over this week told police they were on the way to the hospital because the woman was 38 weeks pregnant and in labor.

After Wyoming County Sheriff's deputies escorted their vehicle to the hospital, the couple's story didn't check out.

The 22-year-old woman wasn't even pregnant. And now she and her friend are facing criminal charges.

Victoria L. Young and Michael A. Young, 35, both of Attica, were pulled over Tuesday on North Main Street when authorities determined the vehicle had a suspended registration and no insurance. Victoria Young was in the front passenger seat and Michael Young was driving, according to the Sheriff's Office.

After their story evaporated at the hospital, authorities discovered there was an order of protection in place and Victoria Young had additional legal trouble.

She was wanted on a warrant by Olean police on a petit larceny charge, for which she was arrested and turned over to Olean police. She was also charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident for what she told the sheriff's deputy. She's due in Warsaw Village Court on April 10 on that charge, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The active "stay away" order for Michael Young to stay away from Victoria Young led to Michael Young's arrest for second-degree criminal contempt. He was also charged with driving with a suspended registration and driving without insurance, the Sheriff's Office said.
