The head of Roswell Park Cancer Institute will talk Saturday about cracking the glass ceiling when it comes to women in medical and science professions.
Candace C. Johnson, Roswell's president and chief executive officer, will be the keynote speaker for an annual symposium sponsored by UB DoctHERS, a fairly new women's networking group designed to help advance women in medicine and the sciences.
As part of her presentation to the 200 students and others expected to attend, Johnson will chronicle her experiences over the years, from the time she was the only woman in her doctoral program in the 1970s as an immunology graduate student at Ohio State University to becoming the first woman chief executive at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in February 2015.
The symposium this year is titled "Leading The Way" and Johnson's featured remarks will address "breaking the glass ceiling."
UB faculty also will discuss topics related to medicine and medical education.
The event, which is at capacity, runs from 8 a.m. to noon at The Westin Buffalo, 250 Delaware Ave.
