Christie claims Bills' GM rebuffed offer to help Carpenter

The Buffalo Bills' announcement Monday that they released kicker Dan Carpenter apparently sparked an unhappy memory for former Bills kicker Steve Christie.

In a post on his Facebook page, Christie, in wishing Carpenter well, mentioned that he had made an offer to Bills General Manager Doug Whaley to help Carpenter but was turned down.

The Buffalo News contacted the Bills for a response, and the team issued the following statement from a spokesman:

"Steve Christie is a valuable member of our alumni community and we appreciate all that he has done for this organization. He is the Bills' all-time leading scorer and the top field-goal kicker in team history. We appreciated his offer to assist Dan and that was communicated to him. But we all just felt it was in the best interests to have Dan continue his working relationship with the coaches."
