Man in construction vest, helmet robs Main Street bank

A man wearing an orange safety vest and yellow construction helmet robbed a bank on Main Street Monday afternoon, Amherst police said.

The robber entered the KeyBank branch, located at 5200 Main St. at about 1 p.m. and handed a taller a note demanding money. He left with an undetermined amount of cash. Police said he fled on foot but may have gotten into an older, dark-colored SUV.

The bank robber was described as a white man between 45 and 55, of medium build with gray hair. He was about five-feet-10 and appeared to weigh about 200 pounds. He was wearing a black coat with an orange safety vest on top, a yellow construction helmet and safety glasses.

Amherst police have asked anyone with information to call the detective bureau at (716) 689-1329.
