Kelly Maurer, community activist, lighting designer

May 29, 1962 – Oct. 15, 2016

A celebration of life for Kelly Maurer of Buffalo will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 695 Elmwood Ave.

Mrs. Maurer died Oct. 15, 2016, in Buffalo of complications from pneumonia. She was 54.

Raised in Hamburg, she graduated from Hamburg High School and Vassar College. She managed Vassar’s theater department. She also traveled with Arlo Guthrie and John Prine road productions as a professional lighting designer. After she returned to Buffalo, she lent her lighting design skills to “Pick of the Crop,” an area dance group, for many years.

She had a devotion to the ideals of community, equity and collaboration, ideals Mrs. Maurer fostered through her involvement in the Lexington Cooperative Market, Buffalo First, Farmer Pirates, the Buffalo Cooperative Federal Credit Union and Fillmore Forward, among others.

She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Eric Hahn, daughter, Calypso Sky and sister Shannon Zdrojewski .
