Hundreds attend solidarity event at Buffalo's Jewish Community Center

More than 200 people gathered Sunday afternoon to stand in solidarity with recent attacks on the Jewish community – both across the country and in Western New York.

The Hands Across the JCC event drew hundreds of people to the Jewish Community Center on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo. Representatives from Catholic, Muslim and multiple Protestant faiths were present to show support for the local Jewish community and renounce acts of hate and bigotry.

Assemblyman Sean Ryan organized and emceed the rally. Speakers included Rep. Brian Higgins, State Sen. Tim Kennedy, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz and Mayor Bryon Brown. It concluded with the crowd joining hands and forming a circle around the JCC building.

#IStandWithTheJCC events were held across the country Sunday.

A bomb threat was made to JCC locations in Buffalo and Amherst on Feb. 20 and a Jewish cemetery in Rochester was vandalized last week.
