Tim Finley of Williamsville East finished fourth in 1-meter diving as the New York State Boys High School Swimming and Diving Championships got under way Friday at the Nassau County Aquatic Center on Long Island.
Finley, who was 11th last year in the event, scored 237.75 in the preliminaries and 370.60 in the finals for a 514.65 total. Patrick Carter of West Islip (Section XI) defended his title with a total of 580.05.
Two Orchard Park freestyle relays, a Williamsville East medley relay, Olean freestyler Seth Farrand and Hamburg breaststroker Luke Kennedy qualified for championship finals on Saturday. Williamsville East’s medley relay of Michael Clough, Adam Sokolowski, Jake Witte and Griffin White qualified 10th in 1:37.90.
Farrand posted the second fastest time in the 50 freestyle (20.89) while Alex Hoch of OP was fifth best at 21.13. Farrand also had the third fastest time in the 100 freestyle, 45.53. Kennedy was sixth best (57.36) in the 100 breaststroke.
Orchard Park’s 200 freestyle relay of Hoch, Riley McLaughlin, Mason McMullen and Sean Duffey were sixth in 1:27.0 while the Quakers’ 400 relay turned in the ninth fast time of 3:15.05 with McLaughlin, Joe Black, Drew Deren and Hoch.
