Freedom only exists when people are safe
In his Feb. 20 Another Voice, philosophy professor Barry L. Gan states that security diminishes our freedoms. That may play well in his academically infused philosophical bubble. As a 30-year veteran of law enforcement, and especially after witnessing the events of 9/11, we need to better understand the reality we live in today. To understand that without safety, there is no freedom. Freedom only exists when people know they are truly safe.
