Thomas Vanek has been traded for the third time.
The former Sabres scoring star is on his way to Florida, according to multiple reports. Detroit will get defenseman Dylan McIlrath and a third-round pick for the winger.
"I'm excited to join Florida and make a push for the playoffs, which is what it's all about," Vanek said on TSN. "I still think I can play at a high level, and I'm excited to go to a team that can make a push."
Florida is just one point out of a playoff spot and four points back of third-place Boston in the Atlantic Division.
Buffalo drafted Vanek in 2003 and traded him to the New York Islanders in October 2013. The Isles sent him to Montreal in March 2014.
Vanek signed a one-year deal with Detroit and has 15 goals and 38 points in 48 games.
