UCLA freshman Lonzo Ball quickly evolved into one of the nation’s best players and a likely finalist for Player of the Year. He’s a 6-foot-6 point guard, a complete player who was averaging 14.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game. He’s a certain NBA lottery pick, a baller.
If you haven’t heard of him, just ask his father. LaVar Ball has been running his mouth all season about Lonzo and, with two more sons on their way to UCLA, has shown no signs of slowing down. This windbag is the last guy you want to see at your high school reunion.
“He’s better than Steph Curry to me,” LaVar Ball told TMZ. “Put Steph Curry on UCLA's team right now, and put my boy on Golden State, and watch what happens.”
We'll see what happens in the NBA draft, assuming LaVar doesn't get his way. He wants Lonzo to play for the Lakers so he can learn from Magic Johnson. He vowed to “speak it into existence.” No offense to other teams, he argued, but they’re not the Lakers. No offense to Lonzo, but his father could use a heavy dose of humility -- in Sacramento.
