Wheatfield seeks $750,000 to assist planned brew pub

WHEATFIELD – The Town Board voted Monday to apply for a $750,000 grant to help pay for a $3.3 million plan to establish a microbrewery and restaurant in The Summit, a largely vacant mall on Williams Road in Wheatfield.

The town would use the grant from the state Office of Community Renewal for the benefit of Big Thunder Brewing Co., set up by mall owner Zoran Cocov, a Brampton, Ont., real estate developer.

The plan is to brew beer at the mall and serve it in a restaurant that would cater to local athletes competing in a pair of sports domes with inflatable roofs, which also are to be built behind the mall this year. The $750,000 is the most the town can seek for the project, under state regulations. The brewery and pub would fill a total of 15,500 square feet in the mall.
