Singling out immigrants ignores history and facts
The letter, “America cannot ignore threat immigrants pose,” was almost perfect, except it’s not just immigrants we have to be watchful of. The writer referenced very real, documented examples of lethal aggression and deadly attacks by individuals from other countries.
What we can’t leave out, however, are the mass murders that shook us to our core from non-immigrants. What country was the shooter at Columbine High School from? What was the ethnic background of the shooter at Sandy Hook? Or the shooter who entered a church prayer group, was welcomed to join and took the lives of six innocent people?
Immigrants or natural born – we have got to change and reinforce our laws, abide by them and practice the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
We cannot toss history and the facts aside. It’s called learning from past experiences; abiding by the rules; and going through the proper channels – “when you see something, say something.”
Together we can do this. Our forefathers were immigrants, remember? Look what they accomplished “with liberty and justice for all.”
