Two accused of stealing scrap from Niagara Falls automotive business

NIAGARA FALLS – Two men face felony charges after they were discovered in the Lockport Road yard of Page’s Automotive Friday afternoon, attempting to steal $2,800 in scrap metal, Niagara Falls Police said.

Vincent J. Merlo, 32, of Military Road, and Rodney B. Mitchell, 57, of Lockport Road were charged each with fourth-degree grand larceny. Mitchell also was charged with  possession of burglary tools.

Police said the suspects admitted to taking scrap metal from the site on at least two other occasions. The two, who were confronted just before 1 p.m., had claimed they received permission to take the scrap.
