Niagara’s luck against Robert Morris in hockey was no better in the Great Outdoors on Sunday than it was in an enclosed arena on Saturday. The Purple Eagles dropped a 5-1 decision to the Colonials in a game played in Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, home of the Steelers. The win completed a weekend sweep by Robert Morris.
The Colonials jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Brandon Watt and Rob Mann. Sam Rennaker got one of those goals back in the second period for the Purple Eagles, but Luke Lynch restored the Colonials’ lead later in the period. Alex Tonge finished the scoring for RM about 11 minutes into the third period.
Robert Morris had a 41-34 edge in shots.
Niagara finished the regular season 3-28-3 overall, 3-23-3 in Atlantic Hockey. Robert Morris was 19-11-4, 15-10-3 in AH. The Purple Eagles will take part in the postseason tournament; that event starts next weekend.
