Niagara Falls drug suspect accused of bolting from arrest scene, injuring trooper

NIAGARA FALLS – A Niagara Falls man being arrested on drug charges early Sunday tried to flee, injuring a police officer in the process, Niagara Falls police said.

Ronald J. Bennett, 36, faces charges including second-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, unlicensed operation and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation.

State Police said they stopped a car with heavily tinted windows driven by Bennett near Cedar Avenue about 1 a.m. and noticed a digital scale in the console and two bags of a white powder in the door.

When told he was being arrested, police said, Bennett bolted and shoved a trooper to the ground, dislocating his shoulder. The suspect was caught after a short foot chase, police added.
