Mike Harrington's NHL Power Rankings

Through Friday's games. Last week in parenthesis.

1. Washington Capitals. First team to 40 wins -- and it  took only 59 games. (1)

2. Minnesota Wild. At whopping plus-60 goal differential, with no one else in West over plus-30. (2)

3. Pittsburgh Penguins. Hainsey a good pickup for injury-ravaged blueline. (3)

4. Chicago Blackhawks. Red-hot Kane: Six goals, 10 points in last six games. (5)

5. New York Rangers. Huge OT save by Lundqvist on Matthews breakaway in shootout win in Toronto. (6)

6. Columbus Blue Jackets. Just 21-16-5 outside of 16-game winning streak. (4).

7. San Jose Sharks. Struggling to finish: Five regulation/shootout losses in last 10 games, after just two in first 50. (7)

8. Edmonton Oilers. Started 2-2 on rugged six-game roadie with trips to Nashville and St. Louis remaining. (9)

9. Anaheim Ducks. Hard to believe they're this close with just 11 goals apiece from Getzlaf, Perry. (10)

10. Montreal Canadiens. Julien quickly learning there are major issues here. (8)

11. Ottawa Senators. Looking like Atlantic favorites as Habs keep struggling. (12)

12. New York Islanders. Biggest disparity in league with 20 home wins, nine road wins. (15)

13. Boston Bruins. Classic new voice needed as players immediately respond to Cassidy. (13)

14. Toronto Maple Leafs. Four 15-plus rookie goal scorers for first time in franchise history. (14)

15. St. Louis Blues. Shattenkirk Sweepstakes the top topic at deadline. (11)

16. Florida Panthers.  Followed first 5-0 road trip in franchise history with back-to-back home losses to Oilers, Flames. (17)

17. Nashville Predators. It will be odd to see Subban in white and gold Tuesday night at KeyBank Center. (16)

18. Calgary Flames. Just 15-14-0 at home, where they play seven of eight starting Tuesday vs. Kings. (18)

19. Los Angeles Kings. Seem headed for second playoff miss in three years since '14 Cup. (19)

20. Philadelphia Flyers. Ten-game streak looks like total fluke, when you consider 18-25-7 record outside of it. (20)

21. Tampa Bay Lightning. Tough back-to-back coming this week in Pittsburgh, Buffalo. (23)

22. Buffalo Sabres. Still alive, as opponents didn't go wild piling points during bye week. (21)

23. Winnipeg Jets. Wonder if they still think they won the Kane trade. (24)

24. New Jersey Devils. We really have to say something about them every week? Zzzzzz. (22)

25. Vancouver Canucks. Oddly little chatter about a move of Miller. (26)

26. Carolina Hurricanes. Hainsey deal sets Sabres' market for Kulikov, Franson? (25)

27. Detroit Red Wings. Playoff team will get a boost from a Vanek trade. (27)

28. Dallas Stars. Sharp, Oduya could make return to Hawks. (28)

29. Arizona Coyotes. Will be in Buffalo on what could be a busy deadline day. (29)

30. Colorado Avalanche. Does Duchene deal happen now or wait until draft week? (30)
