Garden Notes: News of area clubs and events Feb. 24 to March 3, 2017

The Buffalo Area Daylily Society will meet Sunday in the East Aurora Senior Center, King Street at Oakwood Avenue, East Aurora. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.; program begins at 2 p.m. Lyn Chimera will present “Soil is KEY:  Taking Care of Garden Soil.”  Mike Johnson will present a beginners’ program: “Starting Daylilies from Seed.” Free admission; beginners and visitors welcome.

The Niagara Frontier Orchid Society and the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens will present their annual Winter Orchid Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Botanical Gardens, 2655 South Park Ave. Orchid displays, growing demonstrations and orchid vendors. Tickets are available at the door: adults, $11; seniors 62 and older with identification, $10; students 13 and older with identification, $9; kids ages 3 to 12, $6; garden members and kids age 2 and younger are free.

Lewiston Garden Club will meet at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Lewiston Public Library, 305 S. Eighth St., Lewiston. Following a business meeting, David O'Donnell, of Eastern Monarch Butterfly Farm, will discuss ways to protect the monarch. New members and guests are welcome. Hamburg House and Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Community Center, 107 Prospect Ave., Hamburg. Ken Parker, horticulture and native plant consultant, will speak. Call Nancy Kalieta, 826-7462.

Willow Ridge Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Zion United Church of Christ, Koenig Road and Parker Boulevard, Town of Tonawanda. Linda Blyth, a member of the Kenmore Garden Club, will present a program on growing flowers from seeds.

Orchard Park Garden Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 4369 S. Buffalo St. Sign-ups begin at 11:30 a.m.; refreshments at noon. The program at 12:30 p.m. will be “Design Your Own Table.” Four volunteer members will create a table design followed by critiques from members Sue Suchak and Beverly Walsh, accredited National Garden Club flower show judges.
